Prohibitory signs

B-36 No stopping

What it means

Prohibits voluntary stopping, including parking, on the side of the road where it stands. It does not cover a stop required by traffic conditions or rules, such as a queue or red light. It usually ends at the next junction, subject to the exception in section 32(2), or when cancelled, for example by T-25c. B-35 replaces it with a no-parking restriction. Observe supplementary plates and places where signs specifically permit stopping or parking.

In the exam

Plate T-24 under B-36 means a vehicle left there will be towed away at the owner's expense.

Legal basis: § 28 of the regulation of the Ministers of Infrastructure and of the Interior and Administration on road signs and signals (Dz.U. 2019 poz. 2310, as amended).

Questions about sign B-36 in Poland

Does B-36 prohibit stopping in traffic or at a red light?

No. The restriction does not cover a stop required by traffic conditions or rules, such as a queue, a red signal or giving way. It does not permit voluntary stops: waiting for a passenger or switching on hazard lights does not lift the restriction.

Does B-42 cancel the B-36 no-stopping restriction?

No. B-42 cancels only B-23, B-25, B-26, B-29 and B-33 restrictions. B-36 can end at a T-25c plate or be replaced by B-35. It generally also ends at the next junction, except on a dual carriageway where a road joins only from the left and has no connection to the right-hand carriageway. Which restrictions B-42 cancels →
