Are you obliged in this situation to signal the stop of the damaged combination vehicle?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the photo, at the entrance to the town of "Świątkowice", there is a board with the place name and sign D-42 "built-up area", and next to them sign B-36 "no stopping" with a plate with an arrow; in front of us there is a tractor with a trailer. A broken-down vehicle combination standing on this section must be signalled - the answer is YES.

In a built-up area, the obligation to signal a vehicle standing because of a breakdown arises when the vehicle is on the roadway in a place where stopping is prohibited. Sign B-36 introduces exactly such a ban on stopping on this side of the road. You signal it by switching on the hazard warning lights; if the vehicle does not have hazard warning lights, you switch on the sidelights (position lights) and place a reflective warning triangle behind the vehicle or on it, no higher than 1 m. In a vehicle combination, approaching drivers mainly see the back of the trailer, so you check whether the hazard warning lights also work on it. The signalling lasts for the whole time the vehicle is standing, and you remove the combination from the place covered by the ban as soon as possible, because, standing just beyond the place name board, it surprises drivers entering at high speed.

Legal basis: Art. 50 para. 1 point 2 letter b, para. 2 point 2 letter b and para. 3 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym); § 28 para. 2 and para. 3 point 1 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
