Where our questions come from: the official Ministry catalogue

Our questions come from the official Ministry of Infrastructure catalogue, published on gov.pl as an Excel file with multimedia and translations. One condition: we import the catalogue in full, unchanged, and an automated check verifies daily whether the file has changed. Each new version is published by the editors.

Why the exam questions are public

The questions for the theory test are not a secret kept by the WORD (Wojewódzki Ośrodek Ruchu Drogowego, the regional driving test centre). The Act on Vehicle Drivers (ustawa o kierujących pojazdami) says so directly: the exam questions, together with their scenarios, visuals and descriptions, are approved by the minister responsible for transport (art. 51(2a)(2)). Approved questions constitute public information (art. 51(2b)). The Act also limits their number: the database may not have more than 4000 questions (art. 51(2c)).

The database was assessed by the Committee for the Verification and Recommendation of Exam Questions, appointed on 10 December 2014; the new database was handed to the WORDs for use from 11 May 2015. The Ministry of Infrastructure publishes the catalogue for driver candidates on gov.pl as an Excel file, and alongside it packages with multimedia and sign language translations.

For you this means one thing. In the exam you will not get a question that could not have been seen beforehand. The only unknown is the draw: the system selects 32 questions in real time, so you do not know which ones will land with you. What exactly is in the Ministry's catalogue

The July 2026 file is called KATALOG_dla_kandydatów_na_kierowców_072026.xlsx. Inside there are more than 3500 questions, and each one has the full set of data needed in the exam:

• the text of the question and the answers (YES/NO in the basic part, A/B/C in the specialist part) with the correct answer marked;
• the scope: basic or specialist knowledge;
• the number of points: 3, 2 or 1, depending on how important the question is for road safety;
• the driving licence categories the question applies to;
• a reference to the multimedia, that is the photo or video displayed with the question;
• translations into Ukrainian, English and German;
• sign language recordings (a separate package).

The multimedia are separate ZIP archives. Without them the catalogue is just a list of sentences, because in many questions the answer depends on what is visible in the photo or the video.

How our database is built from this catalogue

We do not retype the questions by hand, and we do not "take inspiration" from the catalogue. We import the file from gov.pl in full, together with the scoring, categories, multimedia and translations. That is why a question on our site has the same text, the same answers and the same weight as in the exam at a WORD.

On top of that we add our own work: an explanation with a reference to the rule, and a separate page for every question in our exam question database. We never change the answers or the points. There is one catalogue, and we make it available in a more convenient form.

How we check whether the catalogue has changed

The Ministry does not announce an update schedule; a new version appears as a replaced file on the page. The latest version is from July 2026, and that is the one we have in the database. So as not to miss the next one, we have an automated check.

The process step by step:

1. Every day a script queries the gov.pl page and checks the file headers, that is the metadata that says whether the file has been replaced.
2. If something has changed, it downloads the new version and saves it next to the previous one. Every version stays in the archive.
3. It compares the two versions question by question. The result is a list of three kinds of changes: questions added, questions withdrawn and questions changed (different text, different answer, different scoring, different media).
4. The editorial team receives this list of differences and reviews it.
5. A human approves the publication. Only then do the changes reach the tests and the study mode.

This last step is deliberate. The automated check detects changes, but it does not decide on publication. If the file on gov.pl were corrupted or incomplete, the automation would not break your studying.

What happens to a withdrawn question

A withdrawn question disappears from the mock exam draw and from the study mode, because it will not be in the real exam either. We do not delete it from your study history, though. If you answered it earlier, your statistics and progress remain.

A changed question gets its new text in the database, and the editorial team sees in the version comparison exactly what changed. A change to the text or the answer also means reviewing the explanation, so that it does not teach the old version.

How our test differs from "tests from the internet"

In short: the pool and the rules. The pool is the same official catalogue, in the same version that the WORDs received. The rules are a reproduction of the exam from the regulation on examining and from the WORD website:

• 32 questions: 20 on basic knowledge and 12 on specialist knowledge;
• a draw by 3/2/1 scoring in the same proportions as in the exam (10, 6 and 4 questions in the basic part, 6, 4 and 2 in the specialist part);
• 25 minutes for the whole thing, 20 seconds to read and 15 to answer a basic question, 50 seconds for a specialist question;
• a pass mark of 68 out of 74 points;
• the video plays without controls, as in the exam room;
• the result is calculated by the server, not the browser.

Tests that do not state the catalogue version, or mix questions from different years, may teach you answers that no longer apply. That is why in this post we state which version we have in the database, and we will update it after every change to the catalogue.

Where the explanations come from

The Ministry's catalogue says which answer is correct, but it does not explain why. That part we do ourselves. For every question we write an explanation with a reference to a specific rule: an article of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym), a paragraph of the regulation on road signs and signals, or another act.

Every explanation goes through editorial review before publication. We check that the rule is cited correctly, that it matches the current version of the catalogue, and that the text explains the point rather than repeating the question. How to report an error in a question

Every question has a report button. You click, describe what is wrong and send it. The report goes to the editorial team.

We fix what is on our side: the explanation, the media, the translation. We do not change the text of the question or the correct answer from the catalogue. Here we are bound by the catalogue, even when an answer seems debatable. If a question raises doubts, we will say so in the explanation, but the answer stays as it is in the Ministry's file. That is the one that counts in the exam.

A practical tip to finish: when you come across a question where "your" answer clashes with the catalogue, do not argue with the catalogue. Read the explanation, check the rule and remember the version from the file. After a failed exam you have the right, on application, to see your questions with the correct answers anyway (art. 52a of the Act on Vehicle Drivers), so the catalogue will have the last word regardless.
