A properly adjusted external mirror on a passenger car shows:

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

C. a part of the vehicle side and the space behind it corresponding to the vehicle side.

Explanation

In the photo, in the left exterior mirror you can see the edge of your own car, the lane behind it and a silver car driving behind. In a well-adjusted exterior mirror, the driver sees a part of the side of the vehicle and the area behind it on the corresponding side - answer C. The area beside the car alone (A) or the space behind it alone (B) is not enough to judge the distance and position of other vehicles.

The Regulation on the technical conditions of vehicles requires a passenger car to be equipped with mirrors that give the driver the rear view needed for road safety, including at least one exterior mirror on the left side and an interior mirror. The strip of the car's side visible in the mirror is a reference point - thanks to it, you know how far away and at what angle the vehicle behind is travelling. You adjust the mirrors before driving, in your normal position behind the steering wheel, so that the side of the car takes up only a narrow strip at the inner edge and the road fills the rest; a mirror turned out too far increases the blind spot, which you check anyway with a look over your shoulder before changing lanes.

Legal basis: § 11 para. 1 point 5 of the Regulation on the technical conditions of vehicles and the scope of their necessary equipment
