What should you do if you have to perform an emergency braking manoeuvre with a truck equipped with anti-lock braking system (ABS)?

In the photo, you can see an instrument cluster with the ABS warning light lit, pointed out by an arrow. When braking in an emergency in a lorry with ABS, you firmly press the brake and clutch pedals and do not release them when the system activates - answer A.

The Road Traffic Act requires you to brake in a way that does not cause danger, and ABS works only when you keep the pedal pressed: the system itself releases and restores the pressure in the brakes many times per second, so the wheels do not lock and the vehicle remains steerable. Reducing the pressure when you feel the pulsing (answer B) interrupts braking and makes the distance longer; pumping the pedal (answer C) is a technique from before ABS, which only gets in the way in a vehicle with this system. You press the clutch together with the brake, because otherwise the engine will stall during hard braking, and with it you will lose power steering and the compressor. You keep the pedal pressed until you stop or until you have passed the obstacle.
