While driving a truck, at which point will you press the clutch if you intend to brake?

In the photo, you can see the pedals in a lorry cab: the clutch, the brake and the accelerator. During normal, planned braking, you press the clutch pedal only when the speed drops to the minimum for the current gear - answer C.

The Road Traffic Act requires you to brake in a way that does not endanger road safety. As long as the clutch is released, the engine stays connected to the wheels and brakes the vehicle by itself, and the drive keeps the combination stable - this is especially important in a lorry with a semi-trailer. Pressing the clutch before the brake (answer A) or together with it (answer B) cuts off this drive, all the work falls on the brakes, which heat up faster, and the vehicle rolls freely. So you press the clutch only just before stopping or before changing down a gear, when the engine speed drops to the limit of the engine's working range. It is different with emergency braking: there you press both pedals all the way down, so as not to stall the engine and lose power assistance.
