What auditory signals can you emit from a motor vehicle?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

C. Continuous, non-piercing sound.

Explanation

In the photo you can see a close-up of the horn button on the steering wheel spoke, marked with a horn symbol. In a motor vehicle you may use a horn with a continuous, non-piercing tone - answer C. A horn with a changing tone (A) is reserved for emergency vehicles (with flashing blue lights and a siren), and any tone (B) is not allowed.

The Regulation on the technical conditions of vehicles requires a motor vehicle to be equipped with a horn with a continuous and non-piercing tone and a set sound level measured from a distance of 3 m. Signals with a changing tone, like those in ambulances and police cars, are reserved for emergency vehicles, so that everyone recognises them immediately. The Road Traffic Act allows you to use the horn only when you need to warn of danger, and prohibits overusing it and using it in a built-up area, unless there is an immediate danger. Fitting a "melody" horn or a siren in an ordinary car is a petty offence.

Legal basis: § 11 para. 1 point 6 of the Regulation on the technical conditions of vehicles and the scope of their necessary equipment; Art. 29 para. 1 and 2 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
