Can you perform a reverse manoeuvre on a one-way road?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the photo there is a narrow street in a housing estate between blocks of flats, at the entrance to which there is sign D-3 "one-way road" with a plate "Droga wewnętrzna" (internal road); there are cars parked along the street. You may reverse on a one-way road. The answer is: yes.

The Road Traffic Act lists the places where reversing is prohibited: a tunnel, a bridge, a flyover, a motorway and an expressway. A one-way road is not among them, so reversing - for example when parking between stationary cars - is allowed, as long as it does not turn into driving the wrong way over a longer section. When reversing, the Act requires you to give way to other vehicles and road users, to exercise particular caution and to check that there is no obstacle behind the vehicle. You reverse slowly, looking through the rear window and in the mirrors, because in a housing estate a child may appear behind the car.

Legal basis: Art. 23 para. 1 point 3 and para. 2 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym); § 44 para. 1 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
