Is it forbidden to perform a reverse manoeuvre on a one-way road?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the photo there is a narrow street in a housing estate between blocks of flats, at the entrance to which there is sign D-3 "one-way road" with a plate "Droga wewnętrzna" (internal road). Reversing is not prohibited on a one-way road. The answer is: no.

The Road Traffic Act prohibits reversing in a tunnel, on a bridge, on a flyover, on a motorway or on an expressway - a one-way road is not on this list. What is prohibited, however, is driving the wrong way, that is making a U-turn and driving forwards in the direction opposite to the one designated; reversing a few metres, for example to get into a parking space, is allowed. When reversing, you give way to other vehicles and pedestrians, exercise particular caution and make sure that there is no obstacle behind the car - if it is difficult, you ask someone to help you.

Legal basis: Art. 23 para. 1 point 3 and para. 2 and Art. 22 para. 6 point 1 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym); § 44 para. 1 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
