You are driving a vehicle whose height is 2.8 metres, loaded up to the height of 3.8 metres. Are you allowed to drive onto the road beyond this sign?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the photo you are driving on a road outside a town towards a viaduct, and on the right there is sign B-16 "no entry for vehicles over 3.7 m high". When driving a vehicle 2.8 m high, loaded to a height of 3.8 m, you are not allowed to continue along this road. The answer is: no.

The Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign B-16 means no traffic of vehicles whose height - also with the load - is greater than the value shown on the sign. So what counts is not the height of the lorry itself (2.8 m), but the highest point of the vehicle together with its load: 3.8 m is 10 cm more than the sign allows. The sign stands before the viaduct visible in the distance - the clearance under it is lower than your load, so driving on would end with hitting the structure, tearing off the load and blocking the road, and at a railway viaduct also with danger to trains. You turn back or choose a detour before you reach the obstacle. You check the height of the load before setting off and write it down in the cab - signs B-15 to B-19 refer to the height, length, mass and axle loads of the vehicle or combination.
