Did the driver of the white vehicle in the left lane properly facilitate the passage of the emergency vehicle?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the video, filmed from above, there is a roadway with three lanes in one direction in a traffic jam; the vehicles in the far left lane have moved to the left edge of the roadway, the others to the right, and a fire engine with its blue lights and siren on is driving along the corridor between the far left and middle lanes, followed by a yellow recovery truck. The white car in the left lane is allowing the emergency vehicle (with flashing blue lights and a siren) to pass in the correct way. The answer is: yes.

The Road Traffic Act states that when heavy traffic makes it difficult for an emergency vehicle to pass, on a roadway with more than two lanes in the same direction, the driver of a vehicle in the far left lane must move out of the way by pulling over as close as possible to the left edge of the lane, and drivers in the other lanes - by pulling over as close as possible to the right edge of their lanes. The white car is in the far left lane and is standing at its left edge - exactly as the rule requires. After the services have passed, the driver may return to their lane, but they must not move off along the corridor behind them - the only vehicles that may use the corridor are an emergency vehicle and roadside assistance and road authority vehicles taking part in a rescue operation.
