Does the situation shown represent a properly created "emergency corridor"?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the video, filmed from above, there is a roadway with three lanes in one direction in a traffic jam; a fire engine is driving along the corridor between the far left lane and the middle lane, the vehicles in the left lane have moved to the left edge, and those in the other lanes - to the right. The situation shown is a correctly formed emergency corridor. The answer is: yes.

The Road Traffic Act states that when heavy traffic makes it difficult for an emergency vehicle (with flashing blue lights and a siren) to pass freely, on a roadway with more than two lanes in the same direction, the driver in the far left lane pulls over as close as possible to the left edge of the lane, and drivers in the other lanes - as close as possible to the right edge of their lanes. This is exactly what the recording shows: cars from the left lane at the left edge of the roadway, cars from the middle and right lanes at the right edges, and between the left and middle lanes a wide, straight corridor along which the fire engine passes. The key point is that the corridor is always formed between the far left lane and the rest - whether there are three lanes or four. The corridor is kept until all emergency vehicles have passed, and nobody else may drive along it.

Legal basis: Art. 9 para. 2 point 2 and para. 3 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
