Is the driver of the vehicle in the right lane obliged to allow you change lanes after driving past this sign?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
NO
Explanation
In the photo there is a dual carriageway in a traffic jam at dusk; you are driving in the left lane, there are cars standing in the right lane, and on both sides of the roadway there are signs D-14 "end of lane" with plates "200 m", informing you that your left lane will end in 200 m. After passing this sign, the driver in the right lane is not required to allow you to change lanes. The answer is: no.
The Road Traffic Act states that when there is a significant reduction in speed, the driver in the neighbouring lane must allow one vehicle from the ending lane to change lanes directly before the point where the lane ends. The Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign D-14 marks the end of the lane at the very edge of the roadway on the side shown on the sign, and plate T-1a placed under it shows the distance to the end of the lane - here 200 m. So the sign is an advance warning, not the point where the lane ends: for the next 200 m the left lane exists and you should continue in it. The obligation for the driver in the right lane to let you in will arise only at the end of these 200 m, at the narrowing itself. You use this section to prepare: you switch on the right indicator in good time and drive to the end of the lane.
