Question no. 11230 2 pts basic AM

Are you obliged to exercise extreme caution when switching lanes in this situation?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the video we are riding a moped in the right lane of a wide, wet roadway in town; the left lane is free, and we intend to move into it. When starting to change lanes, you are obliged to exercise particular caution - the answer is YES.

The Road Traffic Act states that a driver may change lanes only while exercising particular caution and must give way to a vehicle travelling in the lane they intend to enter. Before starting the manoeuvre, you check the mirrors and the blind spot over your shoulder, switch on your indicator in good time and change lanes smoothly, only when you are sure that you will not obstruct anyone. A moped is slower than cars, so vehicles in the adjacent lane close in on it quickly - you need a bigger gap than a car does.

Legal basis: Art. 22 para. 1, 4 and 5 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
