Question no. 10258 2 pts basic B

In this situation, are you allowed to park your vehicle at the roadside?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video, you are driving on a high-speed dual carriageway outside town, with barriers on both sides; a silver car is overtaking you in the left lane, and beyond the solid edge line there is a narrow shoulder. You are not allowed to park the vehicle on the shoulder. The answer is: no.

The Road Traffic Act prohibits stopping or parking a vehicle on a motorway or expressway anywhere other than in places designated for this purpose; if the vehicle has been brought to a standstill for technical reasons, the driver must remove it from the roadway and warn other road users. Parking, that is a standstill of the vehicle for more than one minute for reasons other than traffic, is therefore allowed only at rest areas (MOP), car parks and lay-bys marked with signs - and not on the shoulder or the emergency lane, even for a moment to answer the phone or check the map; regardless of the type of road, the Act also prohibits stopping on the shoulder next to a solid edge line. The emergency lane is used only for pulling off the roadway with a broken-down car: then you switch on your hazard warning lights, place the warning triangle 100 m behind the vehicle and wait behind the barrier. On a road where others are driving at 120 km/h, a stationary car is a deadly danger.

Legal basis: Art. 49 para. 3 and para. 1 point 5, Art. 2 point 30 and Art. 50 para. 1 point 1 and para. 2 point 1 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
