Question no. 10237 2 pts basic B

In this situation, are you allowed to stop the vehicle at the roadside?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video, you are driving on a road through a forest outside town; the right-hand edge of the roadway is marked by a solid edge line, beyond which there is a narrow shoulder; cyclists are riding right next to the line. You are not allowed to stop the vehicle on the shoulder. The answer is: no.

The Road Traffic Act prohibits stopping a vehicle on the roadway and on the shoulder next to a solid line marking the edge of the roadway, and the Regulation on road signs and signals states that road marking P-7b "solid edge line" marks the edge of the roadway and means that the driver of a motor vehicle must not drive onto the shoulder. A car standing on such a shoulder would force cyclists to move out onto the roadway between the cars. In any case, stopping is allowed only where the vehicle is visible from a sufficient distance and does not cause danger or impede traffic, and a road through a forest with cyclists at the edge of the roadway does not guarantee this. If your car breaks down, you pull over as far to the right as possible, switch on your hazard warning lights and place the warning triangle 30-50 m behind the car; for a planned stop you use a forest car park or a lay-by.

Legal basis: Art. 49 para. 1 point 5, Art. 46 para. 1 and Art. 50 para. 2 point 2 letter a of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym); § 86 para. 8 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
