In this situation, are you allowed to stop on the roadway?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
NO
Explanation
In the video we are driving outside a built-up area on a roadway with two lanes separated by a double solid line; along the right edge there is a solid edge line (with a short broken section at an exit), and beyond it a shoulder. In this situation you must not stop on the roadway - the answer is NO.
The Road Traffic Act prohibits stopping a vehicle on the roadway next to a broken line marking the edge of the roadway, and on the roadway and the shoulder next to a solid line marking the edge of the roadway. So an edge line, whether broken or solid, marks a place where stopping on the roadway is prohibited. In addition, the roadway is divided by a double solid line, and stopping is also prohibited when it would force other drivers of multi-track vehicles to drive onto a solid line when going around you. If you have to stop, you leave the road at a place where this is allowed, for example into a car park or an intersecting road.
