Question no. 10175 1 pts basic B

Do you always have the right of way when turning left at this crossroads?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video, you are approaching a junction in a town; on the right there is sign D-1 "priority road" with plate T-6a, on which the thick line of the priority road turns right, and a thin line leads to the left. When turning left, you do not always have right of way at this junction. The answer is: no.

The Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign D-1 marks the beginning or continuation of a priority road, and plate T-6a shows the actual course of that road through the junction: the thick line is the priority road, the thin ones are minor roads. Here the priority road turns right, so when you turn left, you leave it and enter a minor road. Vehicles approaching from the right are travelling on the priority road - they have right of way over you, because you are leaving it and they are staying on it. You have right of way only over vehicles coming out of the minor road on the left. The Road Traffic Act also requires you, before turning left, to move towards the centre of the roadway, signal the manoeuvre and give way to pedestrians crossing the roadway you are entering.

Legal basis: § 43 para. 1 and 2 of the Regulation on road signs and signals; Art. 25 para. 1, Art. 22 para. 2 point 2 and Art. 26 para. 2 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
