Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video, you are approaching a junction in an estate of detached houses, where you intend to turn left; a red car is coming from the opposite direction, and its driver plans to go straight on. You do not have right of way over it. The answer is: no.

The Road Traffic Act states that a driver who is turning left is required to give way to a vehicle coming from the opposite direction and going straight on or turning right. A left turn is the only manoeuvre at a junction in which you cross the opposite lane, which is why the Act places the obligation to give way on you, not on the driver going straight on. It does not matter who reached the junction first or what type of road it is - you are both on the same street, so no sign treats you differently. Before the turn you switch on your left indicator, move towards the centre of the roadway and stop with your wheels pointing straight ahead, so that if you are hit from behind, you are not pushed into the path of the oncoming car; you turn when the red car has passed and the opposite lane is clear. When turning into the intersecting road, you also give way to pedestrians crossing the roadway you are entering.
