In the visible situation, are you obliged to exercise special caution?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the photo you are driving along a city street behind a white car and approaching a junction with traffic lights; the traffic lights show green, on the right there are signs A-7 "give way" and D-6 "pedestrian crossing", and there is a crossing ahead of you. You are obliged to exercise particular caution. The answer is: yes.

The Road Traffic Act requires a driver approaching a pedestrian crossing to exercise particular caution, to reduce speed so as not to endanger a pedestrian who is on the crossing or stepping onto it, and to give way to them; it also requires particular caution when approaching a junction. A green light does not release you from these duties - a pedestrian may step onto the crossing on red, and someone from the intersecting road may drive in despite the sign. Sign A-7 next to the traffic lights applies when the lights are switched off or show flashing amber. You slow down, watch both pavements and the approaches to the junction, keep your distance from the white car and continue when nothing is threatening you.

Legal basis: Art. 26 para. 1 and Art. 25 para. 1 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym); § 47 para. 4 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
