In this situation, do you have the right of way at the nearest intersection over vehicles approaching from the left side?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the photo you are driving in the rain on a two-way road behind a red car; on the right there is warning sign A-6c, on which a thick vertical line is your road, and a thin line branches off to the left. At the nearest junction you have right of way over vehicles approaching from the left, because they are coming out of a minor road. The answer is: yes.

The Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign A-6c "junction with a minor road on the left" warns of a junction with a minor road on the left; the driver on the minor road has sign A-7 or B-20 there and must give way to you. The thick line on the sign always means the priority road, and the thin one - the minor road. However, right of way does not release you from caution: the Road Traffic Act requires you to exercise particular caution when approaching a junction, and in the rain the braking distance is longer. You watch the mouth of the road on the left, because a driver coming out of it may not notice you through a rain-covered windscreen, and you keep your distance from the red car, which may brake suddenly.
