Which of the following activities are you obliged to perform before driving the vehicle shown?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
C. Wipe off snow on the car glass, engine cover, roof and mirrors.
Explanation
The car in the photo is completely covered with snow. Before driving you are obliged to clear snow from all the windows, the engine cover, the roof and the mirrors - answer C. A small "peephole" in the windscreen (A) or the windows alone (B) are not enough: snow from the bonnet slides onto the windscreen when you brake, and a sheet of snow or ice from the roof breaks off while you are driving and may hit the car behind you.
The Road Traffic Act requires a vehicle to be maintained so that its use does not endanger the safety of others and gives the driver a sufficient field of view, and it separately prohibits covering the lights and number plates. So you must also clear snow from the headlights, the rear lights and the number plates. The police issue fines for driving with a snow-covered roof.
