In what position should the coupling be when connecting tram carriages?

In the photo you can see a worker who is connecting two tram carriages with a coupler. When tram carriages are being connected, the coupler should be unfolded - answer B.

A coupler in the folded position (answer A) is raised against the front of the carriage and cannot be connected to the other carriage. Before connecting, it is unfolded so that its end is opposite the coupler of the other carriage. So the position of the coupler does matter (answer C). During coupling, the carriages are moved towards each other very slowly, and the worker at the coupler must be clearly visible to the tram driver. After connecting, you check that the coupler is locked.
