What may weaken the effectiveness of the front braking system of the motorcycle?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

B. Leakage of brake fluid from a brake line.

Explanation

In the photo, there is the front wheel of a motorcycle with a brake disc and calliper, and a brake line running to the calliper. The front wheel brake can be weakened by a leak of fluid from the brake line - answer B.

The Road Traffic Act requires a vehicle to be maintained in such a way that using it does not endanger safety, and the front brake provides most of a motorcycle's braking force. The system is hydraulic: pressure on the lever is transferred through the fluid in the line to the calliper pistons, which press the pads against the disc. When the line leaks, fluid is lost from the system and air gets in, and air can be compressed - the lever sinks towards the handlebars, and the pads barely touch the disc. A change in the fluid level within the normal range (answer A) is natural, because as the pads wear, the fluid moves into the calliper. Pressing the lever too hard (answer C) does not weaken the brake; at most it may lock the wheel. Before riding, you check the fluid level in the reservoir on the handlebars and whether there are any stains under the motorcycle; a soft or "pumping" lever means you must not ride until it is repaired.

Legal basis: Art. 66 para. 1 point 1 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym); § 14 para. 3 of the Regulation on the technical conditions of vehicles and the scope of their necessary equipment
