How many times per week may the daily driving time be extended by a driver engaged in road transport?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

A. Twice.

Explanation

In the photo, next to a lorry, a tachograph and a record sheet are shown. The daily driving time may be extended twice a week - answer A.

The EU Regulation states that the daily driving time must not exceed 9 hours, but it may be extended to at most 10 hours, not more than twice a week. The week here runs from 0.00 on Monday to 24.00 on Sunday, not any seven days. Three or four extensions (answers B and C) are therefore a violation, for which both the driver and the carrier are responsible. These two extensions also give the upper weekly limit: four days of 9 hours and two of 10 hours give 56 hours, which is exactly the maximum weekly driving time. Regardless of this, after 4.5 hours of driving you are entitled to a 45-minute break.

Legal basis: Art. 6 para. 1 and 2 and Art. 4 letter and of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006
