The EU Regulation defines a regular weekly rest period as a rest lasting at least 45 hours. You must start a weekly rest period no later than at the end of six 24-hour periods from the end of the previous weekly rest period. The answer 24 hours is the minimum length of a reduced rest period, and 36 hours does not appear in the rules. In any two consecutive weeks, a driver must take either two regular rest periods, or one regular and one reduced rest period - and the reduction must be compensated by an equivalent rest taken in one block before the end of the third week. A regular weekly rest period must not be spent in the vehicle cab.
