Which of the following control lights indicates that the battery is not charging?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

A. A.

Explanation

In the drawing, three red warning light symbols: A - a battery with "-" and "+" terminals, B - an oil can with a drop, C - an exclamation mark in a circle surrounded by arcs. A battery that is not charging is signalled by light A - answer A.

The warning light with the battery symbol comes on when you switch on the ignition and should go out right after the engine starts, when the alternator begins charging. If it stays on while the engine is running, the alternator is not charging - most often because of a broken or loose belt or a faulty regulator. The engine then keeps running, but the power comes only from the battery, and after some time the lights may dim, and an engine with electronic control may stop. In many engines the same belt drives the coolant pump, so a broken belt also risks overheating. The oil can (answer B) concerns the lubrication system, and the exclamation mark in a circle (answer C) - the brakes. A red warning light is a signal to stop and check the cause.
