Oil under pressure reaches the bearings, the crankshaft and other moving parts of the engine. When the pressure drops - because of a lack of oil, a pump failure or a leak - the parts start rubbing against each other almost dry, and within a few minutes the engine can seize. That is why, when this light comes on while the engine is running, you immediately stop the tractor in a safe place, switch off the engine and check the oil level. After you switch on the ignition, before starting the engine, the light is on normally and goes out right after starting. The need to change the oil (answer A) depends on the number of engine hours or the distance travelled, not on this light. A dirty filter (answer C) is signalled by a separate warning light, if the tractor has one.
