When you ride a single-track motorcycle, can you transport a passenger who has consumed alcohol?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
C. No.
Explanation
In the photo a person in a jacket, holding a helmet in their hand, is standing next to a sports motorcycle - a future passenger. You are not allowed to carry a passenger who has drunk alcohol (state after alcohol consumption) on a single-track motorcycle - answer C.
The Road Traffic Act forbids carrying a person who is intoxicated, after drinking alcohol or after taking a substance with an effect similar to alcohol on a bicycle, moped or motorcycle, unless the person is carried in a sidecar. A single-track motorcycle has no sidecar, so the ban is absolute. The state after drinking alcohol begins already at 0.2 per mille - that is one beer - and it does not matter whether the passenger looks fit (answer A) or how slowly you ride (answer B): there are no such conditions in the provision. The reason: the passenger of a two-wheeler is part of the balance of the motorcycle, must hold on, lean together with you and not move suddenly, and it is exactly coordination and reaction time that alcohol impairs. A person under the influence may fall asleep, lean out in a bend or fall off, pulling the motorcycle down. You, as the rider, are responsible for carrying them.
