What should you do before you carry a passenger on a motorcycle?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
B. I will instruct the passenger as to how he should behave on a motorcycle.
Explanation
In the photo you can see a two-person motorcycle seat with a grab handle for the passenger. Before you take a passenger on a journey, you instruct them how to behave on a motorcycle - answer B.
The passenger is part of the mass of the motorcycle and affects how it behaves: when they sit stiffly, lean the opposite way to the rider or move in a bend, the motorcycle becomes unpredictable. That is why before the ride you explain to them: hold on to the grab handles or to the rider, keep the feet on the footrests even when stopped, lean together with you in bends, do not move suddenly when braking, and get on only when you give the signal, when the motorcycle is standing steadily. The Road Traffic Act requires the passenger to wear a helmet and forbids using a vehicle in a way that endangers a person travelling on it; a category A driving licence gives you the entitlement, but you are responsible for the passenger's safety. Reducing the stiffness of the suspension (answer A) and the tyre pressure (answer C) are the opposite of what is needed - with extra load, the suspension and tyres are set harder, according to the manufacturer's instructions.
