What lights may be placed on the side car of a motorcycle?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
A. Front and rear position lights.
Explanation
In the photo there is a classic motorcycle with a sidecar fitted on the right-hand side. Of the lights listed, front and rear sidelights (position lights) may be placed on a sidecar - answer A.
The Regulation on the technical conditions of vehicles states that a motorcycle sidecar should have front sidelights, rear sidelights, rear reflectors and indicators, and that the sidelights must switch on and off together with the sidelights of the motorcycle. The same provision forbids placing main beam, dipped headlights and fog lights on the sidecar. The sidecar is meant to be visible, not to light up the road: the sidelights show others that the vehicle is wider than an ordinary motorcycle, and a headlight on the sidecar would dazzle drivers approaching from the side and mislead them about the position of the vehicle. The sidecar must be fitted on the right-hand side of the motorcycle, as you can see in the photo.
