Which of these signs tells you not to exceed the speed of 40 km/h?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
C. C.
Explanation
On the board there are three round signs with the number 40: A - blue with a white number, B - white with a black diagonal stripe, C - white with a red border and a black number. Only sign C expresses a ban on exceeding a speed of 40 km/h - answer C.
The Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign B-33 "speed limit" (red border, sign C) means a ban on exceeding the speed shown on the sign in kilometres per hour. Sign A is C-14 "minimum speed" - the blue background means an order: you must ride no slower than 40 km/h, unless traffic conditions require you to slow down. Sign B is C-15 "end of minimum speed" - it cancels this order. Remember the colours: a red border means a ban, a blue circle means an order, a diagonal stripe means the end of the rule. Confusing A with C in the exam happens often, because the number is the same but the meaning is the opposite: under C-14, riding at 30 km/h without a reason is a petty offence, and under B-33, riding at 50 km/h is speeding.
