Which of the following vehicles can you drive if you have a B1-category driving licence?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

B. A four-wheeled vehicle (microcar, quad).

Explanation

In the photo you can see the back of a driving licence in which only category B1 has been entered, with the date of issue 19.01.13 and the expiry date 19.01.28. With a category B1 driving licence you may drive a quadricycle - answer B.

The Vehicle Drivers Act states that a category B1 driving licence entitles you to drive a quadricycle and the vehicles covered by category AM, that is, a moped and a light quadricycle. A quadricycle is a motor vehicle with an unladen mass of up to 400 kg when carrying people or up to 550 kg when carrying goods. A motorcycle with a sidecar (answer A) is still a motorcycle, so it requires a motorcycle category - A1, A2 or A, depending on its specifications. A motor vehicle with an unladen mass of 650 kg (answer C) goes beyond the limits of a quadricycle, so it is a car - and for that you need category B. You can get category B1 from the age of 16.

Legal basis: Art. 6 para. 1 point 1 and 5 and Art. 8 para. 1 point 2 of the Vehicle Drivers Act (ustawa o kierujących pojazdami); Art. 2 point 42b of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
