What do we call a combination vehicle?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
A. A passenger car with a trailer.
Explanation
In the drawing you can see three outlines: A - a passenger car with a caravan, B - a motorcycle with a sidecar, C - a recovery vehicle towing a car. A vehicle combination is a passenger car with a trailer - answer A. A motorcycle with a sidecar (B) is one vehicle, and the Road Traffic Act directly excludes vehicles joined for towing (C) from the definition of a vehicle combination.
The Act defines a vehicle combination as vehicles joined together in order to move on the road as a single unit, with the reservation that this does not apply to vehicles joined for towing. This distinction has practical effects: separate limits apply to a vehicle combination for speed (for example 80 km/h on a motorway for a car with a trailer), length (18.75 m) and mass, and driving a combination with a heavier trailer requires category B+E or code 96. Towing, in turn, has its own rules: speed up to 30 km/h in a built-up area and 60 km/h outside it, dipped headlights on the towing vehicle and a warning triangle on the towed one.
Legal basis: Art. 2 point 49 and Art. 20 para. 3 point 2 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
