Does this sign indicate that you are obliged to drive straight ahead at the nearest intersection?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

The blue rectangular sign with a white arrow pointing upwards is D-3 "one-way road". It tells you that you are entering a road on which traffic moves in one direction - nobody will come from the opposite direction. It is not a mandatory sign, so it does not require you to go straight on at the nearest junction.

It is easy to confuse it with sign C-5 "go straight on", but that sign is round. The Regulation on road signs and signals says that sign D-3 marks the beginning or continuation of a road or roadway on which traffic moves in one direction, and the obligation to go straight on is expressed only by the round sign C-5. On a one-way road you can turn at junctions if other signs do not prohibit it, and before a left turn you move close to the left edge of the roadway.

Legal basis: § 44 para. 1 and § 35 para. 1 point 5 of the Regulation on road signs and signals; Art. 22 para. 2 point 2 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
