Question illustration: Does this sign indicate entry to a town?

Does this sign indicate entry to a town?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the photo, in winter, you are driving on a road through a forest; on the right there is a green rectangular board with the white inscription "Jawor" (a place name) - sign E-17a "town". This sign marks the entry to a town. The answer is: yes.

The Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign E-17a "town" marks the entry to a town, and E-18a "end of town" - the exit from it. The green board is administrative information: it says that you are entering the boundaries of a given town, but on its own it does not introduce a 50 km/h speed limit. The limit comes only from sign D-42 "built-up area" - a white board with a black silhouette of buildings. In the photo there is forest all around and you cannot see D-42, so the speed limits for outside built-up areas still apply, unless D-42 appears in a moment. The Regulation adds that a prohibition sign placed below E-17a applies in the whole area of the town, unless it has been changed or cancelled on some stretch - in this way the municipality can, for example, limit vehicle weight in the whole village with one sign.

Legal basis: § 66 para. 1, § 58 para. 3 and § 15 para. 3 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
