Question no. 11234 3 pts basic AM

Are you entitled to overtake a car that is in the left lane?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video we are riding a moped along a street in town in a general traffic lane - on the right there is a lane marked "BUS" - and a silver car is driving next to us in the left lane; in front of us there is a pedestrian crossing marked with D-6 signs, without traffic lights. You are not allowed to overtake the car in the left lane - the answer is NO.

The Road Traffic Act prohibits overtaking a vehicle on a pedestrian crossing and immediately before it, except at a crossing where traffic is controlled. There are no traffic lights at this crossing, so overtaking, also on the right, is prohibited. The car in the left lane may stop before the crossing to let through a pedestrian whom you cannot see - you would then ride straight into that pedestrian. Going around a vehicle that has stopped to give way to a pedestrian is also prohibited. You do not enter the bus lane to get around the car.

Legal basis: Art. 26 para. 3 point 1 and 2 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
