When changing lanes to the left, in this situation, do you have the right of way over vehicles in the lane you intend to enter?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the photo you can see a right lane with a lane-change arrow P-9 painted on it, pointing diagonally to the left - this lane is ending and you must move to the adjacent left lane. When changing to the left lane, you do not have right of way over vehicles travelling in the lane you intend to enter - the answer is NO.

Marking P-9 means an order to move into the adjacent lane shown by the arrow. When changing lanes, the driver must give way to a vehicle travelling in the lane they intend to enter. The only exception is the zipper merge (jazda na suwak) when traffic has slowed down considerably, for example in a traffic jam - then the driver in the adjacent lane must let one vehicle in, directly before the point where the lane ends. In normal traffic you change lanes only when there is a safe gap, signalling this with your indicator and without forcing anyone to brake.

Legal basis: § 87 para. 3 of the Regulation on road signs and signals; Art. 22 para. 1, 4 and 4a of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
