Question no. 10524 2 pts basic B

In this situation, can you still change lanes to the right?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video you are driving on a dual carriageway at an interchange, under a gantry with signs; a lane leading to the exit branches off on the right, and the lanes are separated by a solid line. You are no longer allowed to change to the right lane. The answer is: no.

The Regulation on road signs and signals states that the single solid line P-2 separates lanes going in the same direction and means that you must not drive across it or onto it. Where the exit lane separates from the main carriageway, the broken line changes into a solid one precisely so that drivers decide to exit earlier, and not at the last moment, cutting across the path of other vehicles. Since the line is already solid, changing lanes is prohibited - even if the right lane looks free. A driver who has missed the exit continues to the next interchange and turns back there; sharply cutting across the solid line just before the area closed to traffic is one of the most common causes of serious accidents at interchanges. To avoid such a situation, you read the advance direction boards several hundred metres earlier and get into the correct lane while the line is still broken.

Legal basis: § 86 para. 3 of the Regulation on road signs and signals; Art. 22 para. 4 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
