Should you approach the left edge of the roadway if you intend to turn left onto the visible two-way traffic road?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
NO
Explanation
In the video we are driving along a narrow two-way side street without marked lanes, along a pavement and past a parked red car, towards a junction where you can turn left. If you intend to turn left on such a two-way road, you should not move closer to the left edge of the roadway - the answer is NO.
Before turning left on a two-way roadway, you move closer to the centre of the roadway, not to its left edge. Moving closer to the left edge applies only to a one-way roadway. On a two-way road, oncoming vehicles travel along the left edge, so moving over there would mean driving against the flow of traffic and could lead to a head-on collision. The correct position is right next to the centre line of the roadway; you switch on the left indicator, give way to vehicles coming from the right on the intersecting road, and when turning, you give way to pedestrians crossing the roadway you are entering.
