Question no. 10981 1 pts basic AM

Should you use the sound signal when driving past the bus in the adjacent lane?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video we are driving along a wide street in the city centre, and ahead of us, in the adjacent right lane, there is an articulated city bus, which we catch up with and drive past. When driving past a bus travelling in the adjacent lane, you should not use the horn - the answer is NO.

The horn or a light signal may be used only when it is necessary to warn of danger. The Road Traffic Act prohibits the misuse of these signals, and in a built-up area it prohibits the use of the horn unless it is necessary because of immediate danger. The bus is driving correctly in its lane, so there is no reason to hoot at it. Using the horn in this situation could surprise the driver and make them move suddenly. Instead, you stay in the middle of your lane, keep your distance and do not drive next to the bus for a long time, in its driver's blind spot.

Legal basis: Art. 29 para. 1 and para. 2 point 1 and 2 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
