Question no. 10923 3 pts basic AM

Does this signal permit you to drive straight ahead through the intersection?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video we are driving in the right lane, which has a right-turn arrow, towards a junction; above the roadway there are three sets of traffic lights for the individual lanes, and at the right-hand edge there are directional traffic lights showing a green arrow pointing right. This signal does not allow you to go straight on through the junction - the answer is NO.

Signals shown by directional traffic lights S-3 apply only to drivers going in the directions shown by the arrow. So a green arrow pointing right allows only a right turn. Going straight on is controlled by another signal, and in addition, from a lane with a right-turn arrow you may only go right. Directional traffic lights are used where individual directions have separate light phases - green for one direction does not mean green for the others. That is why you look at the traffic lights for your lane and direction, not at the ones that happen to be green.
