Question no. 10922 3 pts basic AM

In this situation, can you turn right at the intersection?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video we approach a junction with a pedestrian crossing; the traffic lights at the right-hand edge and the ones hanging above the roadway show a red signal. In this situation you must not turn right at the junction - the answer is NO.

A red signal means that you must not drive past the traffic lights in any direction. A right turn on a red light would be possible only if a green arrow pointing right were lit next to the red light - there is no such arrow at this junction. So you stop before the stop line or before the traffic lights and wait for the green signal. Even if the junction seems empty and a right turn "does not bother anyone", the rules do not allow it - pedestrians who have green may be walking across the crossing just after the turn. Sign D-1 next to the traffic lights sets priority only when the traffic lights are switched off or show flashing amber.

Legal basis: § 95 para. 1 point 3 and § 96 para. 1 of the Regulation on road signs and signals; Art. 5 para. 3 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
