When turning left at the intersection, do you have the right of way over vehicles approaching from the right?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
NO
Explanation
In the video we are driving along a residential street between blocks of flats, past parked cars, towards a junction with signs A-5 "crossroads" and D-6 "pedestrian crossing" in front of it. When you turn left there, you do not have right of way over vehicles approaching from the right - the answer is NO.
Sign A-5 announces an uncontrolled junction of equal roads, where no signs set priority. In that case the right-hand rule decides: you give way to a vehicle approaching from the right, and when turning left - also to vehicles coming from the opposite direction going straight on or turning right. So the vehicle from the right has right of way over you, regardless of whether you are going straight on or turning. At junctions in housing estates the view is often blocked by parked cars and hedges, so you approach slowly and edge out only when you can see the road on the right. Do not count on someone giving way to you because they "are driving more slowly".
