Have the drivers of these vehicles facilitated the free passage of emergency vehicles by creating the so-called "emergency corridor"?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the video, a dual carriageway in a traffic jam, seen from the driver's cab; vehicles from the left lane have moved to the left edge, those from the right lane to the right edge, and a fire engine with its siren and lights on is driving through the middle, between the lanes, on its way to a fire visible in the distance. The drivers have allowed emergency vehicles to pass freely by creating an emergency corridor. The answer is: yes.

The Road Traffic Act states that in heavy traffic that makes it difficult for an emergency vehicle (with flashing blue lights and a siren) to pass freely, on a roadway with two lanes in the same direction, the driver of a vehicle in the left lane is obliged to move as close as possible to the left edge of the lane, and the driver in the right lane - as close as possible to the right edge of the lane. The recording shows the result: the vehicles have moved apart to the edges, and the fire engine drives through the middle of the roadway without braking. This is what an emergency corridor done well looks like - it was formed in advance, it is straight and wide, and nobody has stopped in the middle of a lane; remember that only the emergency services may drive through the corridor. In a traffic jam you watch your mirrors, because you can see the blue lights before you can hear the siren. When you see them, you move to your edge straight away and wait until all the emergency service vehicles have passed.
