Question no. 10724 2 pts basic BAA1A2AMB1CC1DD1

In this situation, is the driver of vehicle 1 obliged to drive to the right?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the video, in an animation seen from above, there is a roadway with three lanes in one direction, joined by an additional lane from the left; white car 1 is driving in the middle lane, and from behind, along the line between the left and middle lanes, a red fire engine is approaching with its siren and lights on. The driver of vehicle 1 is obliged to move over to the right. The answer is: yes.

The Road Traffic Act requires you to get out of the way of an emergency vehicle (with flashing blue lights and a siren) without delay, and in heavy traffic on a roadway with more than two lanes in the same direction it states that the driver of a vehicle in the far left lane moves as close as possible to the left edge of the lane, and the drivers of vehicles in the other lanes - as close as possible to the right edge of their lanes. Vehicle 1 is driving in the middle lane, so it belongs to "the other lanes" - its direction is to the right. Moving to the left would be a mistake for two reasons: only the far left lane moves to the left, and here the fire engine is driving on the left. Driver 1 switches on the right indicator, checks whether the lane next to them on the right is clear, and moves to the right edge, slowing down.

Legal basis: Art. 9 para. 1 and para. 2 point 2 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
