The Regulation on road signs and signals states that signs D-21 to D-34, including D-26 "vehicle service station", inform you about the facilities shown on the sign that are located by the road; the text "500 m" with an arrow in the lower part of the sign tells you the distance to the facility. Information signs in this group share the same design: a blue background and a white rectangle with a black symbol - a fuel pump is the petrol station D-23, a telephone handset is the telephone D-24, a spanner is the garage D-26, a wheel is the tyre repair shop D-26a, a car under a spray of water is the car wash D-26b. So the spanner symbol tells you that in half a kilometre you will find a garage where a fault can be repaired - useful when a warning light comes on or something starts knocking. Information signs do not order or prohibit anything; they help you find your way on the road.
