Question no. 10454 3 pts basic B

In this situation, can you turn right without stopping before the signalling device?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video you are approaching a junction with traffic lights in town, intending to turn right; the traffic lights show a red signal, and below it a green arrow to the right is lit; a pedestrian is walking across the crossing. You are not allowed to turn right without stopping before the traffic lights. The answer is: no.

The Regulation on road signs and signals states that a red signal shown by traffic lights S-2 together with a signal in the shape of a green arrow means that turning in the direction of the arrow into the nearest roadway at the junction is permitted - on condition that the driver stops before the traffic lights and does not obstruct other road users. So the green filter arrow is a "conditional" permission: first a full stop, then a check that you will not cut in front of anyone, and only then the turn. You stop at the stop line or before the traffic lights, and look left at vehicles on the intersecting road that have green, at pedestrians on the crossing around the corner - they also have green - and at cyclists; you move off when your turn will not force anyone to brake or stop.

Legal basis: § 96 para. 1 and 3 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
