Can you travel at any speed beyond this sign?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
NO
Explanation
In the video you are driving on a road next to a shopping centre; on the right there is sign D-43 "end of built-up area" - a white rectangle with an outline of buildings crossed out with a red line. Beyond this sign you are not allowed to drive at any speed you like. The answer is: no.
The Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign D-43 marks the exit from a built-up area, and the Road Traffic Act sets the speed limits outside built-up areas: for a passenger car, 90 km/h on an ordinary road, 100 km/h on a dual carriageway with at least two lanes in each direction and on a single-carriageway expressway, 120 km/h on a dual-carriageway expressway and 140 km/h on a motorway. So the end of a built-up area is only the end of the 50 km/h limit, not the end of limits altogether. In addition, the rule always applies that you drive at a speed that lets you keep control of the vehicle, taking into account the condition of the road, visibility, the weather and the volume of traffic - on this road that may be less than the limit. Signs B-33 may lower the speed further. "Any speed" does not exist on any Polish road, not even on a motorway.
Legal basis: § 58 para. 3 of the Regulation on road signs and signals; Art. 20 para. 3 point 1 and Art. 19 para. 1 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
