Question no. 10421 1 pts basic B

In this situation, are you entering a built-up area?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video you are driving on a road next to a shopping centre; on the right there is a white rectangular sign with an outline of buildings crossed out with a red line - D-43 "end of built-up area". You are not entering a built-up area - in fact, you are leaving it. The answer is: no.

The Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign D-42 "built-up area" marks the entry to a built-up area, and sign D-43 "end of built-up area" marks the exit from it. Both signs have the same white rectangle with a black outline of houses; they differ in the red diagonal line that crosses out the buildings on D-43. A line crossing something out always means the end of something - D-41, D-43, E-18a and B-42 work the same way. Entering a built-up area would change your driving: a 50 km/h limit and a ban on using the horn except in immediate danger. Leaving works the other way: from the sign, the speed limit for outside built-up areas applies, unless signs say otherwise. It is important that a built-up area does not have to match the boundaries of a town - the town boundary is shown by signs E-17a and E-18a, while the speed limit is linked only to D-42 and D-43.

Legal basis: § 58 para. 3 of the Regulation on road signs and signals; Art. 2 point 15 and 16 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
